Several models of ECG recorders are available, with various printout sizes, transmission capabilities (modem, internet, email) and ECG memory to fit all needs, from a classical Phase I to a thorough QT study.

Recorders come with a bar code system to identify patient ID and visit. Each patient receives an irremovable armband with patient data on one single barcode (ex: patient #, initials, DOB).
A patient leaflet comes with bar codes for all visits. Phase I unit just need to scan the patient armband and the visit in the leaflet to capture the data in the ECG machine. A check between patient barcode and visit barcode allows flagging any outlier.
This solution reduces both workload for the Phase I unit and queries quantities for the ECG lab.
